Open Question: Unlocking my Nokia 6500 Slide phone?

So, I bought this Nokia 6500s, it was locked with 3 (UK) and I want to use it with Vodafone Malta. I got a turbo-sim with it, and after installing it, everything worked fine. Problem is, I downloaded the Nokia Ovi suite on my PC and updated the phone's software, and now, the phone isnt connecting to the network. No reception at all, or sometimes the phone prompts whether to start up without SIM at phone startup. What should I do please? I just ordered a new turbo sim just in case, but I'd like to get some help here please.
